devlog 5- welcome back!

Hello everybody my name is Mira and welcome back to Five Dev at Log NODD. It's been a while but the team has been hard at work over the past few months! Although we didn't attend as exhibitors, the team did attend PAX East 2024 (Final Fantasy XIV Land), which was amazing not just for the experience of being at PAX for the first time but also being able to meet all the amazing devs that were there! Also I met G'raha Tia.

some of our team members upon arrival, being cool (real) g'raha tia (also real)

On the development front, I'll be talking about some of the programming work that the fellas and I have been up to. The god of time (me) has made time real (time now passes in the game at the end of each turn). The sun and moon revolve around our flat world. This is canon (Ivy please say this isn't canon)(Ivy’s note- this is not canon).

Thanks to our RGS playtesters we've identified and fixed many bugs having to do with our card system, including the mysterious behavior where you can get More Cards Per Card. We also received a lot of great suggestions with regards to the in-game camera, so now the camera follows each unit as they take their turns (hooray you can actually see what they're doing) and you can now ZOOM! (yeah it seems kinda trivial but zooming with our pixel shader was making us think hard, everyone say good job Emmet) Speaking of the map area, we've also been working on a better line of sight system for units on the map thanks to Emmet using "the rizzful version" of a particular algorithm (???) and looking into different ways of displaying the fog of war. Getting ready for cutscene implementation, we've started working on a dialogue system complete with sprites and scrolling text so that we can start getting Ivy's amazing writing into our game, as it should be.

We've also implemented a new summon into our game to use alongside zombies: the ghost! No, not our 2D artist, just this little guy:

ghost chillin a comically large ghost (it isn't supposed to be like this oh god.)

We've got a bit more work to do before we get to RPI's GameFest in a couple weeks, but we're excited to show off all the work we've done since our last showcase and release an updated demo! Thanks again, everybody, and as always, I will see you in the next DevLogNODD, buh-bye! (Imagine the outro music is playing now.)
